The Immigration Museum opened in November 1998 as a new campus of Museum Victoria in the refurbished Old Customs House.
The Immigration Museum aims to take visitors on a journey to discover the many dimensions of the migration experience from the 1800s through to the present day. The Museum is unique to Victoria in both its subject matter and through the emotional, personal responses it evokes from visitors. The Museum offers visitors an opportunity to gain an understanding of their own traditions as well as Australia's rich and diverse cultural heritage.
The mission of the museum is to record and interpret the immigration experience of people to Victoria and Australia, and to promote and celebrate our cultural diversity and resulting Australian identity.
