Palais Theatre


The Palais Theatre is a former picture theatre now functioning as a live performance venue located in St Kilda, Victoria, Australia.

The building, which retains all its original features is considered one of the finest examples of Art deco architecture in Australia and is on the Victorian Heritage Register. With a capacity of 2896, it is the largest theatre in Australia.

It is nice to see Art Deco structures preserved. Buildings of that era have an aura about them completely lacking in the sterile "stacked ice cube tray" school of "architecture" so prevalent today.
